The Korea Drug Development Research Association is an R&D-focused association founded in 1986 to advance new drug development. It helped steer Korea’s pharmaceutical sector from generics to innovation through the 1987 substance-patent shift and the 1997 IMF crisis, accelerating new and improved medicines. Through a broad network across pharma, biotech, academia, public labs, CROs and CMOs, it drives open innovation, joint research, and capabilities in clinical and regulatory affairs. It shaped key laws?the Special Act on Promotion and Support of the Pharmaceutical Industry, the Natural-Substance New Drug R&D Promotion Act, and amendments to the Biotechnology Promotion Act?in collaboration with government. Supporting the full R&D lifecycle, it builds reinvestment and reimbursement incentives, runs consortia and training, provides IP, regulatory, clinical and quality support, and links projects to tech transfer, licensing and investment to improve commercialization and competitiveness.
